Building Bridges with Electricity, Connecting Hearts: A Record of International Student Exchange during the 2024 University Immersion Program at the College of Electrical Engineering, Sichuan University

In July of this year, Sichuan University commenced its 2024 University Immersion Program (UIP), welcoming 16 international students from Clausthal University of Technology in Germany. The College of Electrical Engineering organized a series of engaging activities that integrated professional knowledge with cultural exchange. The objective was to provide the visiting students with an opportunity to experience the distinctive appeal of Sichuan University, appreciate the attractions of the College of Electrical Engineering, and immerse themselves in the unique cultural atmosphere of Chengdu.

Science Popularization Journey: Touching the Pulse of Electricity

On the afternoon of July 2nd, international exchange students from China and other countries visited the Energy Internet Science Popularization Base for educational purposes and exploration. Under the expert guidance of faculty members from the college, the students toured various laboratories, including the High Voltage Laboratory, the New Power System and Integrated Energy System Laboratory, the Smart Grid and Energy Internet Laboratory, the New Energy System Laboratory, the Intelligent Control Laboratory, and the Industrial Robotics Laboratory. This comprehensive visit, which integrated scientific dissemination, professional insight, and engaging activities, not only enabled the students to gain an understanding of the expansive field and promising future of electrical engineering and automation but also provided them with a deep appreciation of the rich academic heritage and unique attributes of the College of Electrical Engineering.

Dumpling Affection: Building Bridges of Friendship Together

On July 5th, a warm and engaging dumpling-making event was held for Chinese and international students in the Sino-German class. Chinese students patiently elucidated the cultural significance of dumplings while instructing their international peers in this traditional culinary skill, guiding them through each step of the process. The dough was skillfully manipulated, and the dumplings were meticulously arranged on plates. Amidst an atmosphere of laughter and joy, the hearts of students from both nations became closely intertwined. When the steaming dumplings were presented at the table, the palpable sense of achievement and satisfaction served as a testament to the burgeoning friendship between the youth of the two countries.

Impression of Chengdu: Experience the Local Customs and Culture

During their leisure time, international students, alongside participants in the college exchange program, thoroughly explored the captivating charm of Chengdu. They traversed the vibrant atmosphere of Chunxi Road, appreciated the historical elegance of Jinli, and encountered the endearing pandas at the Panda Base, as well as the rich history of Huanglongxi Ancient Town, leaving their impressions and joy in each location. At a Sichuan restaurant, the authentic Sichuan cuisine, complemented by impressive Sichuan opera performances, provided them with a sensory experience that allowed them to fully engage with the distinctive cultural allure of Chengdu.

Journey to Sichuan Museum: Experiencing a Century of Splendor

On July 10th, the participants of the International Exchange Camp visited the historically significant Sichuan University Museum. Established in 1914, this comprehensive university museum, renowned for its extensive collection and rich cultural heritage, provided the international students with an immersive experience that traversed both time and space. The visit enabled them to explore the origins of life, the achievements of human civilization, the dynamic aspects of daily life, and the significant transformations in national history. Through the engaging explanations provided by the guides, the international students not only expanded their perspectives but also developed a deeper and more nuanced understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture.

The international student exchange activities conducted duringthe2014 UIP not only facilitated academic and cultural exchanges between the College of Electrical Engineering and its global partners but also fostered a bridge of friendship among young individuals from China and other countries, collaboratively contributing to a new chapter in Sino-foreign relations.
