Sichuan University (hereinafter referred to as “SCU”) is a national key university directly under the leadership of the State Ministry of Education, and also a high-level research university listed both in “985 Project” and “211 Project”. With a history dating back to Sichuan Zhong-Xi Xuetang (Sichuan Chinese and Western School), established in 1896, SCU went through two mergers with the former SCU, former Chengdu University of Science and Technology (CUST), and the former West China University of Medical Sciences (WCUMS), all of which were national key universities.
College of Electrical Engineering (hereinafter referred to as “CEE”) was established in 1998 on the base of the former Department of Electrical Engineering, Automation and Applied Electronics of CUST. With historical origins, development and reform dating back to 1944, CEE has got a kernel entity with a running process of more than 70 years.
With a goal of “establishing a high-level research and teaching college, cultivating high-level talents”, CEE has set 6 teaching and research units, including Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of Automation, Department of Medical Information Engineering, Basic Research and Teaching Experiment Center for Electrical Engineering and Electronic Techniques, and Technical Research and Teaching Experiment Center for Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. It has also got 3 provincial key labs: Smart Grid Key Laboratory of Sichuan Province, Power quality and Electromagnetic Environment Key Laboratory, and Information and Automation Technology Key Laboratory. It has established a platform for national demonstration base of innovation and entrepreneurship, “Superconductor and New Energy Center”, joint graduate-student education base for national demonstration engineering majors, undergraduate-student education base for electrical information science and engineering at provincial level, Experimental Demonstration Center for Basic Engineering Courses of Electrics and Electronic at provincial level, and practical training bases for “Training Program of Outstanding Engineers”, three of which are of national level, and one provincial level. In 2017, a “New-Generation Intelligent and Ecological Electrical Engineering” proposed by CEE has successfully been listed as one of the disciplines “with advancing deployment that focus on future fields” in the “Double First-Rate” discipline construction plan of SCU.
The college has formed a multi-level system of running education, involving that for undergraduate, graduate, doctor, etc. It has so far 12 authorized master’s programs, 4 undergraduate programs, covering four first-level disciplines including Electric Engineering, Control Science and Engineering, Information and Communication Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering, with specialties of Electrical Engineering and Its Automation been approved as “Characteristic Major” of Sichuan Province. It has currently 1,662 full-time undergraduate students, and 401 graduate and doctoral students.
Since 2012, the college has obtained substantial achievement in teaching and scientific research; it has undertaken government-funded scientific research projects such as the national “973 Project”, “863 Project”, National Natural Science Foundation of China, Sub-project of National Sci-Tech Support Plan, Foundation for Basic Research of various types at ministerial and provincial-level, and research projects funded by social organizations in need, achieving a total number of more than one hundred; it has won more than ten awards at ministerial and provincial-level and above level; 455 high-level academic papers have been collected by SCI and EI; it has got 145 patent authorizations; realized an amount of scientific research funds of RMB 180 million, with an annual average funds into school of RMB 36 million; it has established long-term relationship with world-renowned universities, research institutions, and large and medium-size enterprises from both home and abroad, such as in the UK, Germany, United States, and Hong Kong.
