讲座一:High Contrast OLEDs

Abstract: This talk will discuss the progress in developing gradient refractive index anode for enhancing the visual contrast of OLED displays. The concept is based upon on using an anode with a gradient or graded refractive index to minimize the ambient light reflection from OLEDs and hence to enhance the visual contrast. For example, a bilayer anode consisting of a thin film of highly oxygen deficient indium tin oxide (ITO), and a normal ITO having a high work function anode in OLEDs for reducing ambient reflection. The highly oxygen deficient ITO film is electrically conducting and optically absorbing. The oxygen deficient ITO layer is inserted between the anode and the rigid or flexible transparent substrate serving as an optical destructive layer for reducing the ambient light reflection from the OLEDs. The gradient refractive index anode can be fabricated using ITO or a combination of other transparent conductive materials, enables to reduce sufficiently the ambient light reflection from mirror-like surface of the metallic cathode in OLEDs through light absorbing and optical destructive interference.

讲座二:Semitransparent Organic Solar Cells

Abstract: Compared to current silicon-based solar cells that are rigid, organic-based solar cells that use solution-based processing deposition techniques are simpler and potentially less expensive to manufacture. Organic photovoltaic cells can be made flexible, semitransparent and are light weight, offer more opportunities for application in new markets such as mobile electronics, disposable electronics, smart cards, power generating windows, smart sensors, automotive, home appliances and outdoor lifestyle etc. Its unique flexibility and semi-transparency feature also adds a decorative and aesthetic dimension to the solar cells so that it can be used on curved surface. After a brief overview of ITO-based transparent cathode, the enhancement of semitransparent organic solar cells over the two competing performance indices of power conversion efficiency and transmittance will be discussed. Our recent research progress in developing semitransparent organic solar cells will be presented.
