To build an international platform for cultural exchange and enhance international guests' understanding of Sichuan University, the College of Electrical Engineering, and traditional Chinese culture, the opening ceremony of the 2025 University Immersion Program (UIP) was successfully held on the morning of June 30.
Attendees included Zhang Yingmin, Deputy Party Secretary of the College; Professor Taylor Anthony Gareth from Brunel University (UK); as well as numerous faculty members, international exchange students, and student representatives from the College of Electrical Engineering. Lin Qinyao, a student from the Class of 2022 majoring in Electrical Engineering and Automation, hosted the ceremony.

At the start of the event, Deputy Secretary Zhang Yingmin extended a warm welcome to the visiting teachers and students, expressing her best wishes for this cross-cultural journey. She briefly introduced the history and overview of Sichuan University and the College of Electrical Engineering, along with the unique charm of Chengdu. She expressed hope that the international participants would deeply appreciate the rich and profound Chinese culture and the unique atmosphere of Chinese universities through this immersive experience. She also encouraged mutual learning and growth among Chinese and foreign students through the active exchange of ideas.

Professor Taylor delivered a speech noting that the international programs hosted by Sichuan University play a vital role in cultural exchange between China and the world. He emphasized that it is the university’s commitment to these international programs that allows professors and students from various countries to gather in Chengdu—an international metropolis—to share in this academic gathering. He wished the college's exchange activities complete success.

Deborah Nyenzu, a student representative from the Technical University of Clausthal (Germany), also spoke. She remarked that this trip to China has already broadened her horizons, noting Chengdu’s high level of modernization and internationalization. She stated she was honored to participate in this cross-cultural activity and holds high expectations for the upcoming two-week program in China.

Wang Yuting, a student representative of the college, welcomed all international friends. He shared his own experience participating in a summer study abroad program at the Technical University of Clausthal last year. He expressed his hope to further strengthen ties with students from Clausthal, deepen mutual cultural understanding, and enhance international friendship.

This year's UIP features three professors from renowned overseas universities and 14 international exchange students. The success of the opening ceremony not only allowed international students to gain a deeper understanding of Sichuan University and the College of Electrical Engineering but also strengthened mutual friendship. Over the next two weeks, visiting professors and students will explore Chinese culture in the classrooms of Sichuan University alongside local students and faculty. They will also participate in various extracurricular activities to jointly appreciate the charm of Chinese culture and the unique elegance of Chengdu.
