On October 16, 2024, the 21stInternational Conference on Harmonics and Power Quality (ICHQP 2024) was held at the Tianfu International Conference Center in Chengdu, China. ICHQP is the most important conference in the field of power quality in the world, initiated by the International Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a number of colleges and universities, research institutes, and electric power enterprises and institutions, and has been successfully held for 20 times since 1984.
The conference was hosted by Sichuan University and organized by the College of Electrical Engineering at Sichuan University. Han Fang, Vice President of Sichuan University; Huang Qi, President of Southwest University of Science and Technology; Du Jinyou, Deputy Secretary General of the Chengdu Municipal People's Government; Hu Chaofan, Deputy Director of the Southwest Division of the State Grid; Zhou Cheng, Deputy Director of the Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Economic and Information Technology and Member of the Municipal Committee of the New Economy; Yang Wei, Deputy Director of the Development and Economic Operation Bureau of the Tianfu New Area; Teng Yufei, Chief Engineer of the Sichuan Academy of Electric Sciences under the State Grid; and other relevant unit heads attended the opening ceremony of the conference.
The opening ceremony of the conference, hosted by Dean Xiao Xianyong of the College of Electrical Engineering at Sichuan University, gathered over 300 experts and scholars from more than 20 countries and regions worldwide.
President Xiao Xianyong opened the meeting
On behalf of the organizers, Vice President Han Fang delivered a speech, in which she pointed out that the quality of electricity is related to the establishment of a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient modern energy system in China and the process of realizing the goal of “dual-carbon”, and that the promotion of theoretical innovations and technological breakthroughs in the field of power quality is not only an urgent need to guarantee energy security and accelerate industrial transformation, but also an important support for the development of new quality and productivity. It is also an important support for the development of new quality productivity and the promotion of sustainable economic and social development. It is of great significance to hold this conference in Chengdu, which is the economic center and scientific and technological innovation center of western China, and where the demand for electricity continues to grow with the booming economy and industries. Sichuan University is a key research university in the west of China and a national “double first-class” university. We hope that through this conference, we can further build consensus, stimulate innovation, promote cooperation, and make unremitting efforts to promote the development of the field of power quality, and make greater contributions to the progress of the global new energy industry. We hope that through this conference, we can further gather consensus, stimulate innovation, promote cooperation, make unremitting efforts to promote the development of the field of power quality, and make greater contributions to the progress of global new energy industry.
Speech by Vice President Han Fang
During the conference, Prof. Xu Wenyuan, member of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, proposed to apply power quality research results to power system stability monitoring and analysis, Prof. Dario Zaninelli of Politecnico di Milano, Italy, introduced the research results of power quality analysis of electric power systems and traction power supply systems, and Prof. Zhang Xiaoping of the University of Birmingham, U.K., proposed to utilize energy quality framework to measure the power waveform characteristics of power sources, demands and currents, and to exchange views with the participants. Professor Xiaoping Zhang of the University of Birmingham, UK, proposed to use the framework of energy quality to measure the power waveform characteristics of power generation, demand and current, and Dr. Yi Zhang, member of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, introduced the use of real-time simulation system to analyze the power quality problems, and conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions with participants.
