Ms Zhao, born in January 1968, a Chinese Communist Party member from Han by ethnicity with a master’s degree and associate professorship, since March 1994 till now, has been working at the Department of Electrical Engineering, College of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Sichuan University as a graduate advisor. Previously, she graduated from Xi’an Jiaotong University with a master degree in Electrical Appliances, and then during June 1990 till March 1994, she worked as an engineer in charge of equipment management in Section of Machine and Dynamics, 5th Branch of Chengdu Seamless Steel Tube Mill.

She has been teaching some 10 courses, fundamental and specialized, currently focusing on the two compulsory courses of Power Electronics and Electromechanics to the undergraduate students and the course of Modern Power Electronics at the postgraduate level. Her social positions include deputy director with both the Power Electronics societies of Sichuan province and Chengdu city, managing director of Sichuan Provincial Lighting Society, and member of the Power Electronics and Electrical Drives Committee under China Association of Mechanical Industry Education. She has been also awarded the provincial level backbone youth teacher, excellent teacher, Tang Lixin master teacher, outstanding Party affairs worker, the 1st prize of excellent graduation internship supervisor, Sichuan University classroom teaching excellence prize, and the university’s excellent graduation designing and thesis supervisory prize.

6 volumes of coursebooks and the teacher’s reference guides as the leading compiler, and 1 coursebook as a participating compiler.

Areas of Research

Power Electronics and Electrical Drives: new energy power generation and microgrid technology, distribution network power quality assessment and the measure to increase the power quality, and fundamental theories on power quality;

High voltage and insulation technology: long life transformer, high overload capacity transformer, new type insulation material for transformers, transformer protection and monitoring technology, and high voltage circuit breaker monitoring.

Laboratory profile

Located at Room B111 of the basic teaching building within the campus, through years of concerted efforts, the laboratory has nurtured an optimum ethos of studies. Its goals to train the talents are: to develop highly talented versatile professionals with both intelligence and emotional quotients. Regarding its research roles, a distinctive orientation and feature of its own has taken shape thanks to several joint scientific research projects over the past decades. The laboratory also offers a platform of exchanges among the graduates and forms partnership with the national or southern grids affiliates and electric appliance producers, which can be great opportunities for the learners. Also, the postgraduates at the laboratory can enjoy the in-depth exchange and cooperation with related laboratories at Tsinghua, Wuhan, Zhejiang and other universities. With Tsinghua University, China Electric Power Research Institute, and Sichuan Provincial Institute of Electric Power Research, a joint postgraduate programme is developed. Except learning and research, the laboratory also organizes various activities, such as dinner party, excursion, and visits to enterprises.
