II. Introduction to Discipline    
Electrical Engineering as a discipline deals mainly with scientific and engineering issues involved in the production, transmission, and application of electrical energy, as well as those related to the design, manufacture, operation, measurement, and control of various electrical equipment. We deliver versatile top grade engineering talent with solid theoretical foundations and extensive expertise in mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, and information control to the power system sector, where they can engage in planning, design, research, development, operating & maintenance, and experiment analysis. The discipline consists of 5 sub-disciplines: Electric Machinery and Electric Apparatus, Power System and Its Automation, High Voltage and Insulation Technology, Power Electronics and Electric Drives, and Theory and New Technology of Electrical Engineering. An erudite faculty work within this discipline. Each year, an endless stream of young talent with doctoral degrees join us and start their teaching and research careers under the guidance of experienced teachers.                   Thirty-three full-time teachers are involved in the Electrical Engineering program, of whom 14 are professors, 12 are associate professors, and 27 have Ph.D. degrees. In addition to a host of horizontal enterprise-university research projects, they have also undertaken multiple vertical projects sponsored by the National Key Basic Research Development Program (973 program), the National Support Program (sub-projects), the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Science Foundation for Young Scientists of China, the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, the Sichuan University Outstanding Young Scholars Fund, the Ministry of Education, various provincial and ministerial research foundations, and the State Grid Corporation Major Engineering Program.  Many achievements have great theoretical and practical significance. Some are domestically first of their kind, and some have been widely applied in the country, leading to great socioeconomic returns. We hold multiple patents for invention and utility models and published a large number of papers that are covered in SCI and EI indexes. Graduates with degrees awarded under this program can choose from a wide array of positions available in power plants, power grid companies, equipment manufacturers, research institutes, education & training organizations, large- and medium-sized power consumption enterprises and other units related to the electricity power industry. Our excellent alumni working in this industry are making remarkable contributions to its development.
