School of Electronics and Information Engineering was integrated in 1998. The current disciplines cover many subjects, such as information and communication engineering, electronic science and technology, optical engineering; and are interdisciplinary with physics, computer science and technology, and control science and technology.
The school consists of Department of Radio Electronics, Department of Optoelectronic Science and Technology, Department of Information Security Engineering.
It includes Professional Experimental Center of Electronic Information Technology, Optoelectronic Specialized Laboratory, Information Security Laboratory, and 7 institutes. In the school, there are 119 staff, including an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, 15 PhD student supervisors, 40 MSc student supervisors, 27 professors, 33 associate professors, and 6 academicians as adjunct professors.
There are 2 PhD authorized sites of disciplines (Information and Communication Engineering, Optical Engineering), 5 of authorized sub-discipline (Optical Engineering, Optics, Communication and Information Systems, Signal and Information Processing, and Radio Physics), 9 MSc authorized sites (Communication and Information Systems, Signal and Information Processing, Circuits and Systems, Electromagnetic Field and Microwave Technologies, Radio Physics, Pattern Recognition and Intelligent Systems, Optical Engineering, Optics, and Physical Electronics), 2 MEng authorized sites (Electronic and Communication Engineering, Optical Engineering), 5 disciplines for undergraduates (Electronic Information Science and Technology, Electronic Information Engineering, Electronic Science and Technology, Optical Information Science and Technology, Information Security), 3 Sichuan provincial key subjects (Optics, Optical Engineering, Communication and Information Systems), 3 provincial and ministry key laboratories (Optics Laboratory, Information Security Laboratory, and China Information Security Evaluation Technology Laboratory), 2 talent training foundations.
In the school, studies of science and technologies have been carried out and made great achievements in wide areas, such as electronics and information, communications, electromagnetic and microwaves, computer applications, laser, optical information, information security, etc. Since 2003, more than 200 high technology research projects have been undertaken, including the projects funded by Major Fund, Outstanding Youth Fund, and Key Fund of National Natural Science Fund, National Fund “973”, National Fund “863”, as well as the projects sponsored by provinces, ministries, and enterprises. More than 1000 publications have been indexed by SCI and EI. The studies in theories and applications of solid-state laser, structural illumination 3D imaging, microwave chemistry, digital image processing and recognition have reached international advanced levels. Two 2nd State Science and Technology Award have been received, a 1st State Natural Science Award was nominated by Education Ministry, a 2nd State Science and Technology Award was nominated by Education Ministry, and more than 20 national invention patents were approved. Since 2000, 29 teaching achievement awards have been received. 30 textbooks have been published. Currently 7 textbooks are approved as “11.5”planned teaching materials. Wide cooperation and exchanges have been established with more than 20 universities and research institutes in America, Russia, Canada, Germany, Italy, South Korea, Hong Kong, etc.
There are currently 725 postgraduates, 1726 fulltime undergraduates. The training of creative talents has made significant achievements. The quality of undergraduate education has received social favorable evaluations.
