Teng has been long engaged in teaching the courses of power System and Automation, related research on dispatch automation and computer information processing, as well as engineering application.  

Teng teaches such courses as Dispatch Automation and Distribution Automation to undergraduate students and the New Computer Technology in Power System and Anti-interference for the Information System to postgraduate students, with a focus on experimental research in charge of several specialized laboratory construction. Interested research areas include dispatch automation, distribution automation, distributed new energy and microgrid, demand side management, power grid security analysis, and prevention and control strategy at the time of fault.

As an executive or leading researcher, Teng participated in several national key technological projects: study of typhoon and rainstorm forecast and alarm system, disaster assessment and prediction technology and method, hazard reduction countermeasures; some Chinese Academy of Sciences projects on disaster reduction information system development; planning, designing, developing projects of engineering application for power grid dispatch automation and energy management system and distributed grid management system; projects of grid operational risk assessment and prevention and control strategy in response to natural disasters.
